Cars are undeniably a fundamental part of everyday life. As environmental concerns escalate due to climate change, individuals and manufacturers alike have come together to help reduce their ecological impact. While many large-scale efforts are in motion, other companies and people are using car-sharing services to decrease emissions and costs.

At Neath Taxi Cabs, we believe that car-sharing is the perfect way to combat climate change. We have created a guide to show how it is beneficial to the environment, and how anyone can contribute to making the world a better place.

Car-sharing is a great way to reduce our environmental impact, with fewer cars on the road leading to fewer emissions released into the atmosphere. As car emissions are the largest contributor to climate change, this decrease is essential for protecting our environment, while less air pollution is an additional benefit.

Decreased demand for cars would lead to a drop in demand for oil and fuel, decreasing the destruction caused by searching for these resources and helping us to preserve them for future generations.

When we talk about having a better standard of vehicle, we don't mean in terms of comfort or specification - we mean having vehicles that are better rated in terms of emissions.

Many car share vehicles tend to be either newer models, or they have to meet certain regulation and standard levels - which in turn makes them more eco-friendly than a 40-year-old diesel car.

The good thing is, you get to pick the type of car you want for the task. If, for example, you have to attend a meeting in another city, you can simply request a small car with great economy and sufficient levels of comfort.

This could lead to a decrease in the number of larger cars on the road, unless of course it is really needed - such as when the whole family is taking a road trip, with their luggage necessitating the need for a larger vehicle than a supermini.

Long-term, infrastructure may also be impacted, specifically in terms of parking infrastructure and demands on the road system. If car sharing continues to gain momentum like it has in the past decade or so, companies may rethink their parking allocation and no longer require huge multi-story car parks. Of course, parking won't be eradicated and cars will still be around, but their demand and usage could be affected.

Fewer parking lots and fewer road expansions mean more resources for park development and the creation of urban green spaces.
